New Beginnings

Are you looking for something fresh to read?

A few of my current readings

Eugene Peterson

A Year With Jesus has a dated daily reading inviting us in— to “hearing and seeing” the way of Jesus.

We all are invited— “inclusive” and not exclusive. May you find encouragements from Scripture and genuine thoughtfulness from Eugene Peterson. These are brief and can be read anytime within your daily life (morning, afternoon, or evening or anytime you need refreshment or refocus). Also included is a resonating question for each reading that gives us something to linger with and connects to who you are and where you might be in your life.

A gentle offering for the new year ahead.

Sarah Arthur & Erin F. Wasinger

Year of Small Things was brought to my attention by a friend. We began this in a book club way.

If you are a book clubber or wanting to try a book club this may be a good resource for you. Both authors share their detailed experiences of forming ‘community’ that supports and engages real life and the journey.

The desire for deeper relational patterns in life seems to be a recurring theme and a longing in our world today especially in the states.

We are slowly reading through this book just dipping our feet into what living a year of small things may look like—for each of us together and individually. A unique invitation is to try this with folks— multi-generational, varied demographics and stages of life (single, married, widower…).

I’ll try to keep you updated on how this one is unfolding throughout the year! Email me, I’d love to hear how you might be experiencing this read as well. (hello@melanienixon.com)

Mary Williams

Delighted to share this with you!

The Examen Journal by live today well and Mary Williams is beautifully laid out and simple.

This journal begins with a brief description of each:

*What is the Examen?

*Who is St. Ignatius of Loyola?

*When should I pray the examen?

*Why and how I should use this journal?

I am finding these to be helpful beginnings for starting the year —whether familiar already with the Examen or new to this kind of prayer.

Rick Warren

A welcoming read appeared on my front porch!

When a dear woman from church delivers a book to your front porch, it’s a message that God has something He wants to share with you. I am looking forward to reading Warren’s writings (which I haven’t before). His journey has been prolific and public over the years, and a neighbor when living in Orange County. So my curiosity is taking this with Light and Trust. This reading comes with a mentoring companionship also something new for me.

May you too find a mentor to read along with you and see where God’s Light and Trust take you.

Hopefully you’ll enjoy one of these readings or resonate with something noted within Resonating Resources.
