Current Readings

Metanoia by Brother John of Taize

In the first chapter, Change. Your Outlook! Brother John writes:

“In classical Greek, metaneoeo means “to change one’s mind”…”Jesus invites his hearers to a change of heart or to a reorientation of their lives.”

“God is doing a brand-new thing, and our task is to accept it with the utmost seriousness… a radical change in our way of thinking, acting, and being.”

Later in chapter seven, Leaving Our Comfort Zone, he continues the conversation of metanoia: “involves the call to leave ones’ comfort zone to set out into the unknown in the company of Christ” and “involves learning a certain detachment”

“…gradually we acquire a taste for the pilgrim’s life and learn to feel more at home with the risen Jesus on the road than with the illusory comforts of a settled life. Jesus himself has become our comfort zone…”

I love when a book opens up my mind to new vocabulary and gives vocabulary to ways in my life journey that have been unnamed. This read has been slow but one of those kinds of discovery. One I will need to reread for sure. He expands the heart to see the Newness of God and His forming work in our lives.

Indwelling love (65):

“O Lord, who has loved us and saved us, come and dwell in our hearts. Give us love, the sweetest of all gifts, which knows no enemy. Implant in our hearts pure love, born of Your love for us, that we may love others as You love us…”
